How it works

Read the rule, practice it, then sit it on the real clock.

  1. Read

Every subject as typed blocks: rules, elements, cases, California distinctions and exam tips, in plain English, one idea per block.

  2. Practice

MBE questions with an explanation for every option, tutor and timed modes, and a review queue for what you got wrong.

  3. Simulate

100-question halves on the real clock, essays and performance tests scored against the California rubric.

The California distinction

Where California departs from the majority rule, the textbook says so in the same block.

One real block from Evidence, chapter 1. Every chapter marks these; the essays test them.

The one-word difference: “disputed”

General rule (federal / majority)

FRE 401 asks only whether the fact is of consequence. A stipulated or uncontested fact is still of consequence, so evidence about it stays relevant. Any objection must come under FRE 403.

California

Cal. Evid. Code § 210 requires a disputed fact of consequence. Once a fact is stipulated or not in dispute, evidence offered only to prove it is irrelevant and inadmissible under § 350, before any § 352 balancing.

If the call names the CEC, write “disputed fact of consequence” and check whether any fact has been stipulated. If the call is silent, apply FRE 401 and mention § 210 only when a stipulation changes the result.

What changes in July 2028?
California moves to the NextGen bar exam from the July 2028 sitting. The February 2027, July 2027 and February 2028 sittings keep the current format: five essays, one performance test and 200 MBE questions.
What is free?
Chapter 1 of every subject, 10 MBE questions a day, the exam guide and the blog. No card and no account for the first 10 questions.
Is the content in my language?
The textbooks and questions are in plain English, the language you will write on exam day, written for readers whose first language is not English. The site, your study plan, the practice screens and our emails are in your language. Reviewed translations of chapters appear in the reader as they are published.
